What more appropriate audience than twins themselves to pick the Twins of the Year? We couldn't think of any official judging crew who would be better suited for the honor, so during the month of December we let twins visiting twinstuff.com choose from a diverse list of celebrity and non-celebrity twins to select the first-ever Twinstuff.Com Twins of the Year.
When the votes were tabulated, we had a runaway choice, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who received more than half of all ballots cast and were easy winners over runners-up, first daughters-to-be, Jenna and Barbara Bush, U.S. Olympic Gymnasts, Paul and Morgan Hamm, and 10 other sets of twins who received at least one vote, including conjoined twins Baby Jodie and Baby Mary from England and the 105-year-old Moyer Twins of Ohio.
The Year of Mary-Kate and Ashley
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen each turned 14 in the year 2000. That's 140 in non-Olsen Twin years. Here's a partial list of what the Olsen Twins accomplished during the 2000 calendar year.
 Released a new made-for-video movie, 'Our Lips Are Sealed' (you can click on the box-cover to the right to learn more about the film and order it online at amazon.com.
- Announced plans to unveil a new line of fashion clothing to be sold at Wal-Mart beginning this January.
- Started a new magazine for 'tweens' called 'Mary-Kate and Ashley' with the first issue due to hit newstands in the spring.
- Began filming two new movies, 'Winning London' and 'Blabbermouth'.
- Published a new book, 'The Case of the Golden Slipper'.
- Publicized a Caribbean Cruise which they will be making next summer and took a 'To Russia With Love' Cruise with their fans.
- Released a Playstation Video Game, 'Magical Mall Mystery' as well as the Gameboy Pocket Planner.
- Guest starred on an episode of TV's 'Seventh Heaven' (as girlfriends of two male teenagers on the show).
- Announced plans for a new TV show which will air next year on Fox Family Channel in which Mary-Kate and Ashley will play teenage daughters of divorced parents, sort of a weekly 'Parent Trap' revision.
